I had the privilege of reading Ron's book Sellout: Musings from Uncle Tom's Cabin towards the end of last year and was amazed with the book's clarity. The beauty of the book is that Ron provides a thorough lesson on what it means to be a black conservative in America, but he does it while telling his own unique story.What's more is the amazing amount of references and resources he provides the reader. Seriously, don't recall coming across a single fact in his book that wasn't backed up with some sort of objective source. That says a lot.
It's also very nice that Ron doesn't assume that you already know all there is to know about conservatism. This way, even if you're not very interested in learning more about black conservatives you will still get a terrific lesson on good old fashion Americanism. If you haven't had a chance to pick it up ye, I'd highly recommend you checking it out soon!

Ron Miller is a thinker and a good writer. His book, Sellout, discusses race relations honestly. He begins the book attacking Eric Holder's statement that we are a "nation of cowards" when it comes to conversations about race. Ron's response is, "it's because the black community doesn't encourage honesty but rather demands fealty to one worldview. If you want to eradicate cowardice in the national discussion on race, how about starting with us?" He goes on to mention he has been called an Uncle Tom for his political views and why he is proud to take up that moniker.
The book talks about his experiences growing up; how he came to trust in Jesus Christ and how this lead to shaping his conservative views. He reminds the reader of the teachings of Martin Luther King and how far the black civil rights movement has traveled from that foundation. He discusses how the black culture has become reliant upon the government and the subsequent failings of the War on Poverty.
The book concludes with the final solution to solving any racial divides - and it is not reparations. The lasting solution is going to have to be forgiveness. Every side is going to have to lay aside their hurts and forgive. Along with this we will have to shake off our slavery to government handouts and get back to free market economies and self-reliance. This is the only way to reduce poverty and provide opportunity. He reminds us what Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul had to say on these matters.
Read the book, Sellout, Musings From Uncle Tom's Porch. It is refreshing and uplifting - and it will give you plenty to think about.
'Sellout" is a very personal account of Ron Miller's journey to faith in Jesus Christ and to conservative political philosophy. The book is accessible, winsome, and a delight to read. Anyone who needs encouragement to know that genuine faith, and good careful thought have not disappeared completely from the Earth in these postmodern times, will find much that is pleasing here. This is a good book to give to your friends, especially those who are of a more cynical mind-set--they will find their worst expectations dis-membered and their stereotypes (of conservatives, of Christians, of African Americans, etc.) overturned. This is a very good book!
This is a most impressive book. If it were in the hands of the majority of people, the country would be more on track. Not at all a one sided look at things.
Definitely recommend this book.
The author reveals his scars as well as his Stars!
I found Ron Millers book 'Sellout' to be a most delightful and thoughtful read. It journeys into his experiences throughout his life and processes into rational, reasonable and common sense conclusions of why we should and must all work together as individuals to restore, preserve and protect our sovereign nation. A country that was founded on the inalienable rights of each and every single individual.

This book melds the most thorny topics of today's world with the timeless truths of God's word, and proposes solutions that can work. It has a perspective of a black American who has reached political and personal highs and lows, and speaks from a realistic viewpoint. As Mr. Miller typically does, he takes the epithet "Uncle Tom", researches and exposes it, and turns it on it's head. And that's just for starters! Let this book challenge you to be the change we all need.
I am currently in the middle of Ron's book, having received my copy last week. This is a great read and a very personal account from a man who happens to be black, loves his country, his family and his community and has a servant's heart. All I can say is I am enjoying this book and I really think you will also. But more importantly, you will learn the heart of a true conservative, who sees life as it really is. Great read.
